Incommunicado

I’m going to go silent for a while as we work through the worst of this. I’m so sickened by it I don’t know what to do with myself. I wanted to just quickly thank everyone who has prayed for Mamie, for us, for the entire family, and for those who perpetrated this heinous act.
Your [...]

As Dale mentioned this morning, our worst fears are being confirmed about Jamie’s mom. Unfortunately, it’s been more than 24 hours since the body was found and we still haven’t heard from police, and are instead compelled to read about it in the news.
The latest story gives the most detail so far.
Thanks for all of [...]

I feel like I’ve been using this blog more for prayer requests than for anything else of late. People seem to keep dying, and in this most recent case of my wife’s mother, the shock is still seeping in.
It’s like an episode of a crime drama, not real life. No real news, just having to [...]

Blog Lull

The world o’ blogs doesn’t seem to be moving along very quickly these days. Not a lot seems to be happening, and the more esoteric concepts we Catholic bloggers like to explore take a bit more time and concentration than many of us seem to have at our disposal at the moment.
I’ve got a big [...]

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Ada Jane Haley, mother of my friend Bill Haley who lives in Phoenix. She passed away on Tuedsay of this week. While she had long battled with cancer, her death was unexpected. She was, thanks be to God, a daily communicant - but prayers for her soul will do [...]

Today is the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church and Hammer of Heretics. I know too little about this great saint, but I have always had a devotion to him because I am incessantly losing things, which he helps me to find virtually without fail.

I am not exaggerating when I say that [...]

The Death of an American Hero

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Ralph Lewis Emmons, my great uncle, who was a fervent Catholic and an American military hero. He died last night, and his funeral will be on Friday, June 15th – the Feast of the Sacred Heart. His nephew, a priest, will celebrate a traditional Requiem Mass [...]
